What to Bring for a Central Park Visit

A practical packing checklist for a walk or guided ride in New York City.

For the weather

Check the forecast on the day and pack layers, sun protection or rain gear as appropriate. Conditions can change while you are outside. Choose shoes suitable for any walking or stairs in your plans.

For comfort and navigation

Bring water, a charged phone and any essentials your group needs. Save the park map and visitor information, including the location of open restrooms. If you use a mobility aid, consult the access map and check the route ahead of time.

For a booked ride

Keep your booking confirmation and meeting instructions handy. Ask the operator in advance about room for larger items, child seating or mobility equipment; storage cannot be assumed. Review the current cancellation terms for the selected ride and find the meeting point before leaving.

Before leaving your hotel

  1. Save the map, your selected entrance and any booking confirmation.
  2. Check the forecast and current park alerts.
  3. Pack water and review the restroom map for your route.
  4. For winter visits, remember that most drinking fountains may be turned off, according to the Conservancy’s running guide.
  5. Ask in advance whether any bulky bag, stroller or mobility aid can fit in your chosen vehicle.

Pack according to your actual plans

For a ride followed by walking, bring comfortable shoes, water, a charged phone and layers suitable for the forecast. Keep the booking confirmation and operator’s contact number accessible, including offline if possible. Families and guests with mobility needs should confirm vehicle arrangements in advance rather than assuming equipment is provided. For current park facilities, use the Conservancy visitor guide.
