Start with the access map
The Conservancy publishes an access map showing entrances, facilities, routes and points of interest. Use it alongside current visitor information, because paths and facilities may be affected by maintenance.
Plan your personal route
Consider distance, slopes, surface, steps, available restrooms and where your group can rest. A landmark’s presence on a map does not mean every approach or interior area is accessible. Contact the visitor center or check current access details for each attraction you want to enter.
Ask before booking a pedicab
Vehicle seating and transfers depend on the equipment and the passenger’s needs. Call +1 (347) 258-6630 to discuss whether a particular ride can accommodate your mobility aid, how boarding works, and how much walking is involved at any stop. We cannot guarantee a specific arrangement without checking first.
Compare restroom and path details
The Conservancy restroom map identifies wheelchair access and seasonal hours. For example, it lists the Chess & Checkers House restroom as wheelchair accessible and year-round, while Bethesda Terrace’s restroom is described as not wheelchair accessible and seasonal. Conditions can change; confirm the current status before relying on either.
On the access map, inspect slope markings, stairs and the symbols for accessible trails. If a paved route or restroom is essential, contact the Conservancy for current conditions and choose an alternative in advance.
Build an accessible journey in stages
Start with the exact address in your booking confirmation and check the MTA accessibility information for the station and current elevator status. Then check the path from the station to your meeting point; an accessible station does not guarantee that every park entrance or path is suitable for your needs.
Before you leave, compare the slope and stair symbols on the Conservancy’s access map with the current restroom list. If a transfer, specific device or step-free route is essential, contact the operator and the relevant visitor center to confirm arrangements and choose a backup.
